Hidden Messages
One of the most common escape room puzzles is a message or code hidden in what otherwise looks like a normal note. The basic approach is to differentiate some subset of the letters or words. Experienced players learn to look for idiosyncrasies in any text they see.
Highlight LettersHighlight letters using bold, colors, or other font changes. | |
Capital LettersThe capital letters in the message don’t follow grammar. That’s because they spell out a secret. | |
Numbers for LettersHide a number code by replacing letters in a message with similar looking numbers. | |
Number WordsNumbers that naturally belong in a message form a code. | |
Rotated LettersSpell out a secret word by rotating or flipping letters. | |
